is a self-taught DJ based in Brooklyn, New York (Lënapehòkink).
Born and raised in San Diego, California, BEYBLADE SHAWTY is a DJ, radio show host, and music event organizer based in Brooklyn, New York.Drawing from a robust background in political education and a decade of training in classical piano, BEYBLADE SHAWTY’s disc jockeying practice incorporates sounds from across the African diaspora, traversing the vast constellation of Black dance music unfurling outward from the Midwest. 

Shaped by vanguard music descended from jazz, funk, and soul – with a specific focus on up-tempo, derivative forms of electronic dance music – BEYBLADE SHAWTY invites listeners on sonic journeys across spacetimes. The DJ’s evocative, captivating, and high-energy sets enchant audiences; playful, irreverent lyrics, percussive basslines, and four-on-the-floor rhythms transport them to new worlds of free movement and self-expression. 
At once precisely methodical and deeply intuitive, BEYBLADE SHAWTY’s mixing practice is informed by the diverse musical backdrop that accompanied her upbringing. Subverting category, the artist utilizes techniques spanning techno, hip-hop, global house, club, and beyond, igniting auditory frequencies that co-create affective trust with her audience.

In 2023, BEYBLADE SHAWTY began hosting The Baddie Hour, a quarterly NYC party series featuring local gender-marginalized talent at the city’s most beloved venues. After years of unsuccessful searching, the DJ and her friends dreamt of a safe, fun environment in which they could reliably listen (and dance!) to great music. Since she couldn’t find one, she organized one herself.
A singular force in the contemporary Brooklyn club circuit, BEYBLADE SHAWTY’s work has been featured on dublab, Newtown Radio, and the 8-Ball Community platform. She has held artist residencies throughout Greater New York and spun across the United States.
